Just a Few Simple Techniques and Settings for the New Digital Camera Owner

Useful Modes and Settings
1 – Know what all of your digital camera modes and icon’s are.
2 – Explore your aperture and shutter priority mode settings.
3 – Learn about your white balance, which is when shots end up with incorrect color.
4 – Understand your histograms so you will know whether your photo is under or over exposed.
5 – Automatic Exposure Bracketing (AEB). This allows you to get great photographs in the trickiest of lighting situations.

Digital Basic Camera Tips
1 – Know how to hold your digital camera, you would be surprised how many people don’t.
2 – Know your shutter release technique.
3 – Be sure and get what your focal point is.
4 – Learn how to take sharp images.
5 – Learn about your in-camera flash, how it works and when it flashes so you can avoid flash blow out.
6 – Learn how to control he depth of your field so subjects can “pop”.
7 – Understand ISO, aperture, shutter speed and exposure.

Care and Maintenance
1 – Avoid dirtying your DSLR sensor which can quickly ruin your camera.
2 – Learn how to clean your DSLR lens.
3 – Learn about your specific camera and how to prevent damage and how to clean it.

Composition Tips
1 – Look up the rules of thirds which is a composition rule of thumb in visual arts such as painting, photography and design.
2 – Make sure to get the point of interest in your photograph.
3 – Keep your camera horizontal
4 – Fill your frame and get close to the subject for a better photo.
5 – Make sure your backgrounds are correct.
6 – Be creative and add random variety to your photos.
